Doodle Grooming in Plano, TX- Expert Care for Goldendoodles, Labradoodles & Poodle Mixes

At Lakeside Pet Spa, our doodle grooming specialists in Plano, Texas, have years of experience handling curly, thick, and unpredictable doodle coats. We know what it takes to keep your doodle healthy, comfortable, and beautifully groomed.
Doodle grooming in Plano is not the same as standard poodle grooming. Your Goldendoodle, Labradoodle, Cavapoo, or Cockapoo has a unique coat that requires specialized expertise, regular maintenance, and a groomer who understands the complexity of doodle coat care.
Why Doodle Grooming Requires Specialized Care
If you own a Goldendoodle, Labradoodle, or any poodle mix, you've probably discovered something: doodles are different. Their coats don't behave like standard poodles. They don't shed like Labs. They're unpredictable, prone to matting, and require grooming knowledge that most standard dog groomers simply don't have.
Most Plano dog groomers treat doodles like generic curly-coated dogs. We treat them like the specialized hybrid breed they are. Doodle grooming requires understanding the texture, density, and growth pattern of a doodle's coat. It requires patience, skill, and a groomer who specializes in this breed.

The Problem Most Doodle Owners Face

You got a doodle because they're smart, loving, and fun. You probably didn't expect the grooming nightmare.
Most doodle owners make the same mistake: they wait too long between grooming appointments. They think a monthly groom is enough. It's not. They skip home brushing. They don't understand that a doodle's coat mats faster than any other breed. By the time they bring their doodle in for grooming, the mats are so bad that shaving is the only option.
Then comes the guilt. And the cost. A full doodle shave isn't cheap, and your doodle looks completely different.
This happens because most groomers in Plano don't properly educate doodle owners about coat care. At Lakeside Pet Spa, we do. We explain what your doodle's coat needs. We show you how to brush at home. We schedule appointments at the right frequency. We prevent the matting crisis before it happens.
Doodle Grooming at Lakeside Pet Spa- What's Included

Removes loose undercoat without damaging the outer coat. Reduces shedding between appointments.
Why It Matters: We will demat only what is tolerable to your doodle. If mats are too extensive, we will shave for your doodle's health and comfort. The sooner you bring in a doodle, the less extensive the problem becomes. Regular grooming every 4-8 weeks helps prevent matting.
Doodle Matting & Dematting

Doodle Matting & Dematting
Blueberry Facial: Gets faces clean, soft, and smelling fresh without bothering sensitive eyes.
Colloidal Silver Hydrocortisone Shampoo: Natural wellness treatment that nourishes skin and reduces itching. Great for doodles with dry skin or sensitive coats.
Paw Soak: This 20-minute soak soothes inflammation from arthritis and allergies. It is followed by colloidal silver hydrocortisone spray and paw balm.
Paw Balm: Smoothes and softens rough paws. Perfect for doodlers who walk on hot Texas pavement.
Teeth Brushing: Supports dental health. Preventative care for doodles prone to dental disease.
CBD Oil: Helps calm anxious doodles during grooming. Reduces stress without sedation.

How Often Should Your Doodle Get Groomed?

Every 4-8 weeks. Not longer. This is not negotiable for doodle coat health.
If you want to extend the time between grooms, you must commit to brushing your doodle at home 3-4 times per week, using the right technique and tools. Most doodle owners don't do this (honestly, most can't find the time). So grooming every 4-8 weeks is essential.
Skipping grooming appointments leads to matting. Matting leads to shaving. Shaving means your doodle loses its beautiful coat and takes 4-6 months to grow it back. Prevent this by staying on schedule.

Home Brushing Tips for Doodle Owners

Use a light touch: Heavy-handed brushing damages the coat and causes breakage.
Get the right tools: A slicker brush, a metal comb, and a detangler spray designed for curly coats. Cheap brushes won't work
Brush before and after bathing: Always brush out your doodle before baths. Water causes mats to tighten and become impossible to remove.
Brush 3-4 times per week: Aim for the face, ears, armpits, chest, and rear end, places where mats develop first.
Line Brush: Part the fur and brush hair down from the part to fully brush out all areas.
Follow up with a comb: Brushing can push the mats to the skin and trick doodle owners into thinking the coat has been fully brushed out. It looks soft and fluffy on top, but mats are hiding below. After brushing, take the metal comb to the skin to end. If it doesn’t go through, go back and line brush some more until the comb slides through everywhere.
Get professional help: Your groomer can show you proper brushing technique during your doodle's appointment.

Extra TLC/Special Handling Fees
Extra TLC/Special Handling fees help cover the cost of labor for the additional time it takes to groom challenging pups. We try to keep these fees as low as possible. Generally about 3-5% of the dogs we groom require these fees. These fees are added each time based on the behavior that day so they may change each visit.
You can help make grooming less scary for your dog by brushing them on a regular basis, rubbing a battery operated toothbrush over them to simulate the clippers and touching their feet and face often. Some dogs may never warm up to grooming in which case we work with them as best as we can.
Dogs that are older or overweight may want to sit or lie down repeatedly, hindering grooming. Older dogs may be more reactive as their senses fail and they don't understand what is happening. Just like people, older dogs can get cranky and not like to be touched.
Dogs that are a danger to groom due to age or behavior will be referred to a vet so they have medical staff available in the case of an emergency.
Due to age or behavior, some dogs require additional time and attention for their groom.
